Lately, I've gotten rid of several online accounts of various types-- cleaning house, as it were-- and I've come to realize that I don't spend even 1/4 of the time online that I used to. That got me thinking about what else I may want to delete, but I'm about to change jobs, and I don't know if that'll give me more free time or less, so...

I think I better hold off dumping any more accounts just yet.

If you cannot explain what you are looking for, then don't be mad when the store associate doesn't know how to help you.

Customer: I need that string with the round end that plugs into my car.
Associate: String? Do you mean a cord?
Customer: You know. *gives decisive head-nod*
Associate: What is it for?
Customer: You know. *gives decisive head-nod*
Associate: *takes wild guess* Are you trying to plug your phone into your car?
Customer: You know. *gives decisive head-nod*
Associate: *hopes that means yes* Are you trying to charge your phone, or play music from your phone through you car speakers?
Customer: You know. *gives decisive head-nod*
(continues for 15 minutes)

I've never been able to figure out what people think is going to happen if a transgender person uses a public restroom other than their chromosome-matching one. All they're gonna do is pee and go on their way--  who cares what their gender identity is?

Been wondering lately: Do I have too many online accounts?

I don't use them as much as I used to (working overnights will do that to ya). Yet every time I think I should kill one, I end up going there and doing something with it.

I've also noticed something that makes me kinda sad: Everybody's scattered. By that I mean the folks I used to keep up with fic-writing-wise (and still try to, even though I've got less time for it) used to all be in one or two places (LJ & AO3) but now some are on DW or Tumblr or IJ or Twitter or Pintrest or idek... and I can't keep track of everyone. Just breaks my heart, really.

Being mean to overnight stockers won't turn them into sales associates, managers, or specialists in other areas of the store.

Let’s talk a little about shopping at night.

The first thing you need to know is that, as a money-saving measure, all WalMarts are stupidly understaffed at night.

The second thing you need to understand is that the only employees in the store between 10:PM and 8:AM are a cashier, two managers, and between 8-12 stockers (whose only job is to take merchandise out of boxes and put it on the shelves, btw; they’re willing to help you, they just aren’t trained to). There are NO sales associates in the store overnight.

So although the store is open 24/7, the specialty counters (Jewelry/SportingGoods/Electronics/Hardware/fitting rooms) are not-- they are shut down and locked overnight. This means that when you come in at midnight to buy a laptop/fishing license/earrings/specially mixed paint/try on jeans, there will be no one manning the counter.

So when you demand that the CLOSED specialty counter be opened for you, you will need to be patient, because this is what will happen:

1. You walk around until you locate one of the nine stockers.

2. You explain to this untrained person what you want.

3. The stocker must wander around until s/he locates one of the two managers on duty. Yes, that really is the only way a stocker can locate anyone; they have no access to the PA system.

4. Once the stocker locates a manager, the manager must walk all the way to the office in the back of the store to get the keys for that particular specialty counter. All the Counter keys are kept locked in the office at night, and only a manager has a key to get into the office. No, the managers are not allowed to carry Counter keys around with them at night.

5. The manager must walk from the back of the store all the way to wherever the customer is.

This takes a while; the store is huge.

No, we are not being slow on purpose. No, we are not indifferent to our customers’ needs. You’re just asking for something that takes more than twenty seconds to accomplish.

Here’s the closest thing to a shortcut in this procedure: The cashier up front (wearing a yellow vest) has a walkie-talkie and can call a manager with it. That’ll cut out steps 1-3 and save you some time. Truth be told, that’s usually how the stocker finds a manager for you anyway.

You’d think after 24 years of marriage, Spouse would remember by now that he can’t just dictate to me what I feel/think/want/need. But noooooooooo.

Here’s the latest scenario:

He surprises me with tickets to the Renaissance Fair, as my birthday present. Now, I like Ren Fairs-- that’s not the problem. Here’s what is: I work overnights. That means I work from 10:PM to 7:AM, and I sleep from 9:AM to 5:PM. Every day.

So for my birthday, he wants me to be out and doing stuff when I’m supposed to be sleeping. I can’t just flip-flop my sleep cycle at will-- the only way I can deal with a nocturnal, very physical job is to keep my sleep schedule consistent. He knows this.

So now I’m attempting to stay awake for 30 hours, with a 9-hour physically exhausting workday at the beginning of it, so that I’ll be awake to ‘enjoy’ my present.

FML. I can’t even get a birthday present that isn’t exhausting, inconvenient, and a lotta work.

First: I absolutely understand and support the roughly 11% of humans whose gender is (technically-speaking) atypical. I see no reason whatsoever to think of this group as "wrong" or defective or evil or whatever stupid label the bullies are using these days. If one is an adult and not hurting anybody, then everyone else needs to just butt out, IMO. Get over it!

Now, that said, let's address this new-ish trend of thinking that gender-typical people are somehow defective and/or a minority. Gender-typical people compose approximately 89% of the population. They are not "wrong-headed" or "old-fashioned" for not having a disparity between their brain-gender and their body-gender. They're (technically-speaking) "typical" because that's the statistical average.

Please, PLEASE stop treating gender-obvious people like they're ignorant just because they aren't gender-fluid/trans/LGBT/whatever.

Humans, if you want to be accepted for being "born this way" then you have to accept others who are born however they are too. Hypocrisy is never attractive.

The person stocking products at night in the pharmacy department is NOT a pharmacist. They don't know which cold medicine works the best, or which prenatal vitamin you should take, or which cough drop you should buy, or what's the right condom for you-- they just put merchandise on the shelves.
